About
NITE is a movement initiated by the Noord Nederlands Toneel + Club Guy & Roni + Asko|Schönberg + Slagwerk Den Haag. NITE is short for National Interdisciplinary Theater Ensemble. Together we create at least one large stage production per year which tours through the Netherlands and Flanders. We form an interdisciplinary ensemble of actors, dancers and musicians.
NITE is pronounced as “All NIGHT long”, “dance the NIGHT away” or just like the Groninger dialect word for “not”: nait.
Interdisciplinary is our middle name
In NITE we mix theater, dance, music, fashion, film and visual art. Interdisciplinary Theater is therefore – literally – our middle name. Its mission can be found in the vision of the Noord Nederlands Toneel: today’s theater in today’s language. It also matches the vision of Club Guy & Roni: pushing the limits of dance. The musicians of Asko|Schönberg and percussionists of Slagwerk Den Haag have already proven in earlier cooperations that they too speak the language of interdisciplinary theater. NITE begins in the rehearsal space, with the ensemble, and that results in an overpowering what the f*ck experience on stage.
Limitless ensemble
All members of the ensemble along with the artistic directors endorse the NITE Manifest. We have an ensemble of dancers, actors and musicians. Every ensemble member excels in his or her own discipline but is open to cooperation with others. In the productions by NITE, no single discipline dominates. Instead, a new form emerges, a theater form that grows and evolves the longer the ensemble works together.
What the f*ck?!
If there is one thing that NITE is aiming for, it’s your reaction after a performance: what the f*ck?! As soon as you get home, you realise you have no idea what you just saw. Was it a warm bath or a slap in the face? It doesn’t matter, as long as you’re awake and are looking at the world with new eyes.
