Club Guy & Roni invites: Kwame Asafo-Adjei + Dunja Jocic
Kwame Asafo-Adjei – Lubeck
De Britse choreograaf Kwame Asafo-Adjei combineert in zijn werk hedendaagse dans en hip-hop met zijn Ghanese afkomst, wat leidt tot een hele eigen, unieke bewegingstaal. Asafo won in 2019 de unieke XL Production Award van de RIDCC. RIDCC is de belangrijkste internationale duetcompetitie voor choreografietalent, met als belangrijkste prijs een ruim productiebudget om een nieuwe voorstelling mee te maken.
“The jury spoke raving words about Family Honour. The piece benefitted from a clear and understandable narrative, with a true authentic and original feeling. At some moments the piece felt uncomfortable, but very intriguing. The timing was impeccable with perfect precision. The jury was impressed by the physical language, strong stage personalities and intense partnering.
The setting was very filmic and theatrical with straightforward social activism, but the choreography added the abstraction that this piece needed to communicate. The jury impressed with the ending of the choreography, where the female dancer stepped up to her aggressor.” – juryrapport RIDCC
Club Guy & Roni, trotse partner van deze competitie, begeleidde Asafo bij het maken van deze nieuwe productie. Lubeck beschrijft de stem van Zwarte kunstenaars en verkent de identiteit vóór het ‘product’. De voorstelling gaat in op hoe slavernij in onze hedendaagse maatschappij is geëvolueerd.
Lubeck is een co-productie van Club Guy & Roni + RIDCC (Rotterdam International Duet Choreography Competition).

Club Guy & Roni vraagt dansmakers met wie het zich verwant voelt nieuw werk te maken. Dit vanuit de missie van het dansgezelschap om talent te ondersteunen, te begeleiden en hen bij een groter publiek onder de aandacht te brengen. In deze allereerste double bill (twee voorstellingen op één avond) staan choreografen Kwame Asafo-Adjei en Dunja Jocic centraal.
