Or did they?
Noord Nederlands Toneel + Club Guy & Roni = WITCH HUNT
The era of witch-hunts in Western Europe coincided with the rise of capitalism and the advent of patriarchy. In the wake of this new philosophy, old attitudes to equality and living together slowly crumbled away. But what did we lose, in reality?
Young archaeologist Esther (Sarah Janneh) returns to the remote country village where she was born. Little there has changed: men sit in silence in the village pub with their backs turned, and the youth are all vacant and bored. An invitation to head up a dig there forces her to confront a past that had been hidden away deep inside.
By portraying past and present on stage together at the same time, the performance shows how much has changed in 500 years, and how much not.
